4 lines to rule them all

Heres a visual representation of what your life looks like if you live above the statistical benchmark to the age of 80. Each square here represents one week at an average of 53 weeks per year To some this might seem morbid, but I find it fascinating, humbling. You see a box I see milestones; birth of a child. The passing of a loved one. Graduation. The first paycheck. Marriage. Happiness and sadness and everything in between all rolled into 4 lines connected together. I like to fill in each week as it passes, it serves the following purpose - acts as a reminder on how far I have to go, so I contemplate and reflect on mistakes to learn from them - helps in keeping my self aligned to my values and stick to my smaller seemingly mundane habits that will only benefit me in the long run (like staying active/ keeping relationships) - keeps me grounded on how much I do not know - a constant reminder on not to take small things too seriously as it will all eventually come to an end - lastl...

The secret to success ?

 Consistency.

Ask anyone and they'll tell you that you need to be consistent in order to achieve anything of consequence in life. And though that does make empirical sense, emotionally, its usually hard to follow through unless you have refined willpower.

I speak from experience, as a person that seems to have browsed through many career paths in a very limited amount of time; often spending a few months on one project or another, in completely unrelated domains, as it would seem.

Though my knowledge base did end up expanding, it was at the cost of a mental burden of not having gained anything of monetary or social value. Life seems to be teaching lessons, but I don't know why its choice of subjects has no overlap

But I do know this, I have to be consistent, not just to succeed, but to survive as well. I have to keep moving from one failure to the next, hoping - praying, that the next idea I pick up will be the one that finally puts me on the direction that I so desperately want to be on

In the words of Rocky Balboa "Its not about how hard you can hit, its about how hard you can *get* hit and keep movin forward...thats how winnin is done"
